Does Venmo take money out of your bank account immediately?

A Venmo payment usually reaches the recipient’s Venmo account immediately, but the withdrawal from your bank account may not appear immediately. When you fund a Venmo payment with a linked bank account, the bank transaction is normally processed through the banking system. Venmo says it may take several days for the payment activity to appear on your bank statement.

Certain bank-funded payments can take up to five business days to process. In those cases, Venmo may label the transaction as pending. This means you should keep enough money in your bank account to cover the payment even when the withdrawal has not appeared yet. Spending that money could result in a failed payment, negative balance, or overdraft charge from your bank.

Before sending the payment, check the funding source displayed at the bottom of the Venmo payment screen. Venmo does not allow you to change the payment method after the payment has been sent.
