What are Square’s processing fees?
On the free plan in 2026: 2.6% + $0.15 in person, 3.3% + $0.30 online and for invoices, and 3.5% + $0.15 for manually keyed payments.
Why is the online Square fee higher than in person?
Card-not-present payments carry more fraud risk, so processors charge more. In-person tap/dip/swipe is the cheapest Square rate.
