How to Share Your PayPal Link (3 Ways)

PayPal has been around forever, but finding the right link to share with clients is still confusing. There are PayPal.me links, payment request links, invoice links, and more. Here's which one to use and how to share it.

Method 1: PayPal.me Link (Simplest)

PayPal.me gives you a personal payment link that looks like:

https://paypal.me/YourName

How to Set Up PayPal.me

  1. Go to paypal.me and log in
  2. Choose your custom URL (e.g., paypal.me/JaneDoeDesign)
  3. Add a profile photo and description (optional but recommended)
  4. Share the link anywhere

Pre-Filling an Amount

You can add an amount to the end of your PayPal.me link:

https://paypal.me/YourName/150

This pre-fills $150 in the payment form. The client can still change it, but it reduces errors and speeds up payment.

PayPal.me Pros and Cons

ProsCons
Clean, memorable URLClient needs a PayPal account to pay
Works in emails, texts, social biosNo automatic reminders
Can pre-fill amountsPayPal fees apply (2.99% + $0.49)

Method 2: PayPal Invoice Link

For more formal requests, you can send a PayPal invoice that includes a payment link:

  1. Log into PayPal and go to Send & Request > Create Invoice
  2. Fill in the client's email, amount, and description
  3. Send the invoice (client receives an email with a "Pay Now" button)

The invoice generates a unique payment link that you can also copy and send directly.

Best for: Clients who need a receipt or formal documentation. Overkill for a quick service payment.

Method 3: PayPal Payment Button

If you have a website, PayPal lets you generate an embeddable "Pay Now" button:

  1. Go to PayPal's Business Tools > PayPal Buttons
  2. Choose "Buy Now" or "Pay Now"
  3. Set the amount and description
  4. Copy the HTML code and paste it on your website

Best for: Websites. Not useful for texts, emails, or social media.

The Limitation of PayPal-Only Links

PayPal is widely used, but it's not universal. Sharing only a PayPal link means:

  • Clients without PayPal can't pay you easily
  • Clients who prefer Venmo, Zelle, or card have to ask you for another option
  • You're sending different links to different clients depending on their preference

That's manageable with 5 clients. It's a mess with 50.

Combine PayPal With All Your Payment Methods

Instead of sharing different links to different people, create one payment page with everything.

Payable.at lets you put PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, credit card, Cash App, and any other method on a single page. Share one link (payable.at/yourname) and let the client pick.

You can also send payment requests by email with automated reminders. No more checking PayPal to see who paid and who didn't.
